Labelling and Manual

Q1: What must be on the rating label?

The rating label must clearly identify the product so it can be traced back to its certificate and test report(s). This can include the product’s brand, manufacturer, model, or another unique identifier, as long as traceability is maintained. Products without brand, manufacturer, or model information are often referred to as white label products.

The rating label should also include all applicable compliance marks and information in a single block, such as RCM mark, R-NZ mark, energy efficiency label (MEPS), water efficiency label (WELS), WaterMark label, and approval number, depending on which marks are relevant to the product under the applicable regulations.

Q2: Where and how should the RCM mark or R-NZ mark be placed?

Labels must be legibly and durably applied on an external surface of the product. The compliance mark or the characters R-NZ must be at least 3 mm in height, and supplier identification at least 1 mm in height. If it is not practical to apply the compliance mark directly to the product, alternative labelling methods can be used, such as placing the mark on the outer packaging, in the instructions for use, or on the product’s guarantee or certificates. For products with a built-in display, the compliance mark may be applied electronically, provided that the accompanying documentation explains how it is applied and that the mark is displayed in a way that is difficult to delete, modify, or prevent from appearing.

Q3: What are the requirements for instructions and other text for a product?

Instructions and other text provided with the product must include essential information such as rated voltage, rated frequency, and rated current, etc.

All instructions and text required by the relevant standard must be written in English. For many household appliances, it is also necessary to include safety warnings, such as:

“This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.”

Additionally, any instructions, text, or warnings specified in the product’s specific standard must also be included. This ensures compliance and helps users operate the product safely.
